Bitget Wallet Surpasses MetaMask in Downloads — CryptoRank

Bitget Wallet surpassed MetaMask in July 2024, reaching 1.6 million downloads, 100,000 more than its competitor.

Last month, Bitget Wallet, a self-custodial cryptocurrency wallet owned by the Bitget exchange, surpassed its most significant competitor, MetaMask, in terms of downloads.

The Bitget Wallet software achieved 1.6 million downloads in July 2024, surpassing MetaMask by 100,000 downloads, as indicated by data from the crypto analytics platform CryptoRank.

Phantom Wallet, Coinbase Wallet, and Animoca Brands-backed SafePal were the other top 10 wallets in terms of the number of downloads. Phantom Wallet had 667,000 downloads, Coinbase Wallet had 475,000 downloads, and Animoca Brands-backed SafePal had 157,000 downloads.

The expansion of Bitget Wallet was achieved through the trading of memecoins, the support of TON, and other factors.

The wallet’s rapid growth, according to Alvin Kan, chief operating officer at Bitget Wallet, can be attributed to the significant increase in onchain trading, notably memecoins, which experienced significant transaction flows throughout 2024.

Kan informed Cointelegraph that Bitget Wallet attracted numerous users from the Open Network (TON) ecosystem due to its status as one of the first wallets to completely support the TON mainnet.

In July 2024, TON surpassed other chains such as Polygon, Arbitrum, and BNB Chain to become the most transacted network on Bitget Wallet.

Among other growth catalysts, Kan referenced the Bitget Wallet Token (BWB) launch in March 2024.

“Bitget Wallet’s user base has grown by more than 50% to 30 million since the introduction of BWB, primarily due to the increased participation in ecosystem airdrops, staking, and governance,” Kan stated.

Kan also stated that the introduction of BWB has resulted in increased trading volumes and a wider range of user interaction, particularly in critical markets like Nigeria and Japan.

Italy, Australia, and Sweden are among the countries that are experiencing the most rapid growth on Bitget Wallet.

As per Bitget Wallet’s data, the application has been actively onboarding new users from all continents, including Asia, Europe, America, Africa, and Oceania, and presently has users from over 186 countries and regions.

Italy, Australia, and Sweden experienced the most rapid growth in app downloads during the first half of 2024, with a 7,500%, 5,300%, and 5,200% increase in downloads from the first half of 2023, respectively.

The Philippines, Russia, and Japan are among the other rapidly expanding countries on Bitget Wallet. During the same period, they experienced growth rates of 4,600%, 4,400%, and 2,100%, respectively.

“We prioritize the mobile experience to encourage widespread adoption, as Web3 users frequently find it inconvenient to utilize plugin wallets on computers,” Bitget Wallet Kan stated.

“We believe decentralized trading will become mainstream in the Web3 industry, with payments being a key application for wallets.”

Community suggests most Web3 users have already downloaded MetaMask

BitGet Wallet, which was officially launched in 2018, was previously known as BitKeep. In August 2023, Following the acquisition of a controlling stake for $30 million, the Bitget exchange rebranded the wallet.

Many social media users were taken aback by the news that Bitget Wallet had surpassed MetaMask in terms of downloads. Some posters reported that they were unaware of the wallet.

Conversely, other users have indicated that MetaMask has been downloaded by the majority of crypto users. Consequently, it is unsurprising that other wallets, such as Bitget, have received a greater number of downloads.

Additionally, certain commentators expressed concerns regarding MetaMask’s mobile application, which they perceived as inferior to the browser extension.
